Consequently, the victim is given no clear or obvious indication that they are actually communicating with an unknown person attempting to defraud them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In this context, <strong>scammers request a transfer of money<\/strong> using excuses such as: \u201cI need you to do me an urgent favour\u201d, \u201cI have a problem with my bank because my account has been blocked. Could you transfer this amount to me and I will pay you back tomorrow?\u201d, or \u201cI need to make an immediate payment\u201d. In some cases, the <strong>fraudster may even provide a bank account<\/strong> into which the transfer is to be made, which may be either a domestic or foreign account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The greatest danger posed by this new method of fraud is that it may be difficult for the recipient to identify any obvious reason for suspicion, since they appear to be communicating with the very same person with whom they have an existing conversation history on the application and on their mobile device. In such circumstances, it is understandable that a <strong>potential fraud victim<\/strong> may have no reason to distrust the message. Nevertheless, the recipient should consider certain fundamental questions, such as whether that person would normally ask for this type of favour, whether the wording used in the request is consistent with the way the genuine contact would normally communicate, or whether they should ask the interlocutor questions concerning personal information known only to the genuine contact. Do not transfer significant sums of money until you have independently confirmed that you are genuinely communicating with the person they claim to be. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Apple recommends keeping the iPhone operating system up to date. If such an incident occurs, even where no money has been transferred, users are advised to <strong>uninstall the WhatsApp messaging application<\/strong> and <strong>reset the mobile device<\/strong> in order to remove any control that <strong>cybercriminals may have gained over the application through the device<\/strong>. To reset the device, the user should go to SETTINGS > GENERAL > TRANSFER OR RESET iPHONE > DELETE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS. During this process, the user may even be able to create a backup despite not having sufficient cloud storage capacity. This temporary backup will be available for 22 hours to restore the device to its previous state. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> WhatsApp, for its part, recommends enabling two-step verification and never sharing registration codes. It also provides a mechanism to recover an affected account by registering the telephone number again. If you have been the victim of fraud, contact your bank or financial institution immediately in an attempt to stop or recall the transaction, and report the matter to the Spanish State Security Forces and Corps.
